Amy Watt

Amy Watt 1900-1956

Born in Devon, Amy then went on to Central St Martins where she met her husband to be John Miller Watt. In 1923 they married and moved to Dedham, Essex where they built a house and studio together looking over the beautiful Dedham Vale. Close neighbours who became great friends Alfred Munnings and his wife Violet spent a lot of time together. They would sketch together and share ideas, showing art all over Suffolk and Essex.

In 1935 they moved to St Ives, Cornwall where she produced works which she later showed at the Royal Academy and the Salon Paris. Her final days spent in London, 8 Walton Street.

This is picture is typical of Amy, using a sense of colour and design that was self assuredly modern, yet works on traditional lines. Its strong, vibrant, a celebration of a still life!
