Balthazar Solvyns 1760 - 1824

These plates are a description of the manners, customs and dresses of the Hindoos. Published in Calcutta 1796 - 1799. The paper, colouring, titles and printing technique are all very Indian in quality. Solvyns was widely regarded as an artist and was painting India and Indians at the same time as Thomas and William Daniell, Henry Salt, Fraser, Colebrooke amongst others.
