Sir William Nicholson (1872 - 1949) was a very famous English artist who was known for his unique style of woodcut prints. He famously produced a woodcut print for Queen Victoria in 1897 which helped establish him within British society at the time.
It was during this time that Nicholson produced an 'Alphabet series' for publisher William Heinemann. They were originally issued in a small run of coloured woodcuts, consequently their popularity led to the images being transferred to lithographic stones and printed in a bound volume. These are great as a present or set and can be framed however you would like.
