Philip Connard RA 1875 - 1958

Framed Dimensions in hand gilt frame: 61 x 72cm

Connard was well recognised for his decorative landscapes and still Life’s (this being an impressive example). He started as an interior painter and part time studies at the Royal College of Art later gaining a scholarship and in 1898 won a British Institution Prize which took him over seas to Paris.

WWI Connard fought in France reaching to the rank of Captain before being invalided due to severe shell shock. He was then appointed an official War Artist (some can be seen at the Imperial War Museum).

Later he was a number of important decorative commissions such as murals at Windsor Castle and his work today can be seen at the Tate, Musee d’Orsay, National Gallery and The Royal Academy.
